Spring is coming to Cayuse Creek Ranch, and along with it our interest in getting back into distance riding after a year sabbatical. The Ganaraska Forest trails opened up two weeks early this year, which is a plus.
EAI Shahtahna (aka Kitty) suffered a leg injury during training, and unfortunately has been sidelined for the year. Kashif has been politely asked to step up to fill her shoes – a very daunting task for a horse new to trail riding in general, and endurance racing in particular.
To date, Kashif has completed his first 40 miles at the Adjala Trail Blazers mileage ride at Mansfield, finished 5th out of 26 at the 25 mile Pyramid Challenge Endurance Race in Lexington Kentucky and finished 9th at the Canadian Championship 50 mile endurance race at New Lowell, ON. The latter competition included his first encounter with water, having to cross a river twice. HAF Allieena+/ finished 10th at the Canadian Championships.
HAF Allieena+/ and Kashif placed 1st and 2nd respectively in the Straight Egyptian class of the Pyramid Challenge 25 mile endurance race, held in conjunction with the Egyptian Event, at the Kentucky Horse Park in June. Their awards included the ceremonial saddle and the gold plated stirrup, donated by the king of Morocco.

Feb 10, 2010 - What’s New at Cayuse Creek Ranch?
The move of Cayuse Creek Ranch from Erin, Ontario to Millbrook was technically completed in October 2009, but the work was just beginning. The new barns for the alpacas and hay storage have now been completed, the horse barn has been renovated, the guest trailer has been established, the horse shelter and corral have been built, and a 12 acre pasture has been fenced. There is still a lot to do in the spring and summer, but by the end of 2010 we hope to have it all together.
